Maurice E.
Wornhoff
July 29, 1945 – December 3, 2021
Maurice (Moe) E. Wornhoff of Cape Coral, FL, peacefully entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Friday, December 3, 2021. His loving family was by his side. He was 76 years old. Moe was born on July 29, 1945, in Gary, Indiana, to the late Elmer Wornhoff and Mary Margaret (Ziese) Wornhoff.
Moe was a graduate of Crown Point High School and worked as an over the road truck driver for many years. Moe worked at ABF Trucking before his retirement. He served in the United States Army and was part of the 35 th (Combat) Engineer Battalion in Vietnam and then transferred to the 19 th Engineer Battalion, before returning home. The 19 th Engineer Battalion would later be awarded with the Valorous Unit Award for "extraordinary heroism in military operations against an armed enemy."
Moe enjoyed many things in life. After his service he received his pilot's license. Moe and a friend bought a small plane together, and they enjoyed flying with buddies, even flying to Mexico.
He loved fireworks and became a pyro-technician, and for over 25 years shot fireworks for 4 th of July and New Year's Eve in NW Indiana and other areas.
In 1988, after moving to Florida, Moe decided to get certified and go scuba diving and enjoyed many trips with his wife, Linda, to different islands.
He conquered the skies and the oceans!
He loved walking his dog, Buddy, and meeting new friends along the way, inviting them to Perkins for breakfast, where he and a group of friends met every Thursday. He never met a stranger.
He was very proud to be a member of New Hope Church in Cape Coral where he was a deacon, greeter, and worked with the youth in the Awana program for many years.
During his early years in Florida, Moe had also been involved with the Rock of Ages Prison Ministry out in Tennessee. They went visiting and witnessing with inmates at the prisons.
Moe is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Wornhoff and Mary Margaret (Ziese) Wornhoff.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Linda Collins Wornhoff; sons, Charles E. Mack of Cape Coral, FL, and William J. Mack (Shawnna) of Valparaiso, IN; grandchildren, Alex Mack, Colton Mack and Alenna Mack of Valparaiso, IN, and Jaimie Kasper of Portage, IN; and his brother, Thomas Wornhoff of Crown Point, IN.
A special thanks to Hope Hospice of Cape Coral and Gulf Coast Village Rehab for their excellent care.
