Obituary

Melanie Lynn Nicols, 51, of Edgewater, Florida, formerly of Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 30, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and her beloved fur babies Copter and Bailey.

Melanie was a beautiful soul whose heart was as generous as it was kind. She loved fiercely, gave selflessly, and had a way of making everyone she met feel like a friend. She never met a stranger, and her warmth, kindness, and contagious laughter had a way of brightening every room she entered. With a brilliant, quick-witted mind and a heart full of compassion, Melanie left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Above all else, Melanie was a devoted mother to her beloved daughters, Tessa Savino and Josephine Nicols, and a loving wife to her husband and partner of 20 years, Rick Nicols. The two shared a special bond and a life built around love, partnership, and the everyday moments that become treasured memories. She loved Rick deeply and was a constant source of love and support. Her daughters were her greatest pride and joy. She thought the world of them and was endlessly proud of the amazing young women they are. Her family was at the center of her world, and the love she had for them was immeasurable.

Though her family carries the heartbreak of losing her, there is comfort in knowing that Melanie is now reunited in heaven with their beloved daughter, Hope Elizabeth, whose memory has forever remained a part of their hearts. A mother's love knows no bounds, and perhaps there is no sweeter thought than imagining them together again.

Her compassion extended far beyond her family and friends. An unwavering lover of animals, Melanie opened her heart and home to countless dogs through fostering and rescue. She generously donated her time and resources to local animal shelters and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She had a rare kind of generosity, the kind that never asked for recognition or praise. She simply gave because it was in her nature. More often than not, she would make sure everyone else was taken care of before thinking of herself. Proud yet humble, she quietly made the world a little kinder through the countless thoughtful things she did.

A graduate of Romulus High School, where she was a member of the cheerleading team, Melanie spent many years in Michigan before eventually making her way to Florida. There, she found joy in the sunshine and treasured time spent at her happy place, the beach. She had an incredible eye for beauty and a natural talent for home decorating and organizing, turning ordinary spaces into something special. She also enjoyed owning and operating her small resale business, where her creativity and love for finding beauty in unexpected places could shine.Melanie is survived by her husband Rick, daughters Tessa Savino and Josephine Nicols, father Rod Lively and his wife Sue Valliere, mother Lorna Lively and her husband John Dethloff, her sister Rochelle Gracia, brother in law Joaquin Gracia; sister in law Michelle Nicols and niece Makaela; beloved nieces and nephew Lillian,Quin, and Elijah; grandfather Jasper Sciacca, aunts Kim and Lisa, Denise and Dr. Paul Hankenson, uncle Randolf Lively and spouse, and uncle Don Lively and husband Mitch Blum. She also leaves behind countless friends and loved ones whose lives were made brighter by knowing her.

Melanie was so much more than a sister to Rochelle; she was her best friend, a confidante, and a forever piece of her heart

Melanie’s life was a reminder that the greatest things we leave behind are not possessions or accomplishments, but the love we give, the lives we touch, and the kindness we put into the world. She did not need recognition to make a difference. Her beautiful heart spoke for itself. She will be remembered for her fierce love, her generous spirit, her quick wit, her infectious laugh, and the countless ways she made others feel loved. Though she will be deeply missed, the love she gave so freely will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. Her time here may have been far too short, but the love she left behind will last forever.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to Edgewater Animal Shelter in memory of Melanie and in honor of her lifelong love of animals.
