Melanie Ann Tompkins (Pickle), 66, of Davenport Florida, passed away on July 18 at 7:20 PM, from complications due to an automobile accident. The Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday August 5th, at 12:00pm at Liberty Baptist Church of Clermont, FL. Her son David A. Tompkins of First Christian Church of Clearwater will be officiating. Viewing will be Tuesday August 5th, 11:00am at Liberty Baptist Church of Clermont with Service to immediately follow. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Baldwin Brothers of Apopka. Pickle was born in Washington, Indiana on 12-12-1958 to Robert and Rita Harbstreit. She grew up in Plainville Indiana, a small rural town surrounded by cornfields. She lived a life dedicated to God, her children and family. She followed God's calling and she, her husband and family moved to Haiti and served as missionaries for five years, working in the schools with children, in the community and learning Creole. She went back to school later in life to fulfill a life long dream and graduated with her RN degree from Valencia College. Pickle was married to David R. Tompkins on 12-31-1980; they were married 44 years. Pickle worked as a RN in the Mother Baby Unit of Advent Health Celebration. She was living her dream and couldn't wait to go to work each shift. She received awards and commendations for excellence and heartfelt service, including The Daisy Award. Pickle was able to travel around the world exploring many different countries and having many adventures along the way. She enjoyed sewing, music, playing piano, painting, hanging out with friends, being with her kids and grandchildren, playing games and singing karaoke. She was also involved in her local church. She was a faithful Christian. Pickle is survived by her husband David Rowe Tompkins, Father Robert Harbstreit, 4 Children, Sheldon Tompkins, Holly (Rick Naujokat), David Adam Tompkins (Danielle), Candace (Matt Rogers), 11 Grandkids Kaylee, Lane, Selah, Abby, David, Jonah, Josiah, Emi, Amelia, Theodore, and Chrysanthemum. Pickle is preceded in death by her mother Rita Harbin. The family will be having a short graveside farewell following the funeral service, with a meal and time for fellowship afterwards.
