Obituary

Mervin Smoker, age 83 of Port Orange, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday December 20, 2020.

Born on July 21, 1937 to Simon and Irene Smoker, Mervin grew up along the rolling hills of Lancaster County Pennsylvania.

He proudly served in the United States Army and would fondly reminisce about his time spent in Germany.

Once honorably discharged, Mervin moved to New Jersey where he met his wife Adele. They were married on November 23, 1961.

His career with Ford Motor Company spanned 30 years and he had a successful tax consulting business in Freehold, New Jersey with his longtime friend Murray Simon.

Mervin was the ultimate handyman. He built the Smoker family home, designed many artistic projects, and was always "the guy" people called for advice.

His artistic talent and dry sense of humor were enjoyed by all who knew him. As avid boaters, Merv and Adele enjoyed many outings on their Sea Ray with family and friends along the Jersey Shore.

He and Adele retired to Port Orange in 1992 and enjoyed many happy years cruising, traveling, and enjoying life with their daughters and sons in law.

Mervin is survived by his wife of 59 years, Adele, daughters Maureen Smoker-Mahon, Kathy Smoker-Ashley, son-in-law, Mitchell Ashley, sister Carol Leaman(Robert), brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Theresa Syvertsen. He also leaves behind many other beloved family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Simon and Irene Smoker.

A private service will be held for the immediate family.
