Obituary

Michael David Wright (Mike) passed away peacefully on Feb 17, 2026 to be with the Lord. He was born on Oct 5, 1954 to Richard H. Wright, Sr. and Jean Harrison Wright in Quonset, RI. A US Navy family, they lived in several places before settling in Alexandria, Va in 1969, where he attended high school. Mike graduated from VA Tech in 1976 and from Tuskegee Veterinary School in 1980. Soon thereafter, he left for Tampa, Fl with his Sunfish Hobie Cat to work and live on a lake. He was married to Kim Crenier from 1981 to 1988 and his son, Matthew (Matt) was born in 1984. He opened his own clinic in Tampa, Northwest Pet Vet.

Mike met Marjorie (Margie) on a blind date in 1996. He was looking for a Christian woman, so he sent a tract asking what you must do to be saved before he would agree to meet her. Margie passed the test. Mike and Margie dated several years while Margie was in school and Mike changed jobs. Mike had sold his clinic, so he was able to spend time with Matt and Margie’s son Jeremy taking frequent trips to the beach, where they surfed, and many other adventures. The four of them ‘officially’ became a family August 7, 1999 when Mike and Margie married and relocated to work in Orlando.

While Mike continued to work at veterinary clinics, he developed an interest in more “natural medicine”. He took homeopathic courses with Dr. Pitcairn and eventually got certified in Nutrition Response Testing, which he developed into a practice, first out of the home office and then at the clinic he opened in Ocoee, The Wright Pet Nutrition. He had many devoted clients who appreciated the positive health changes they saw in their pets. Mike closed the clinic in Dec 2023 to take a well-deserved rest before they moved to Ocala to be with Margie’s mother. Not one to take it easy, he soon took a job at the Silver Springs Lowe’s, where he enjoyed interacting with people and dealing with hardware.

Mike never stopped searching for knowledge in so many ways. He could read a book and retain an in-depth understanding of the material and then apply it in the real world. He also enjoyed music of all genres.

He loved to travel and seeing the splendor of God’s creation. Mike and Margie took many trips, seeing the majority of the National Parks, rafting in the Grand Canyon and backpacking in Wind River Range, Wyoming. Many trips were taken with family and friends. He extensively researched each place and created an agenda which could appear grueling but somehow ended up being lots of fun. In June, 2023, he was the ‘tour guide’ for a large group on an amazing trip to Yellowstone and in Oct 2023 to the Smoky Mountains, where days were filled with adventures and evenings were spent around the table with good food and lots of games and great conversations. In the Fall of 2025, he led his last ‘tour’ to New River Gorge National Park, again filled with an active agenda, laughter, games and love.

Mike and Margie also traveled outside the US with a notable trip to Switzerland with their good friends, Greg and Brenda Angstrom. There the two men were given the ‘Silverbacks’ moniker by their wives, which they happily embraced. In February, 2024, Mike and Matt traveled to Nazare, Portugal to see the big waves. Mike came home with lots of stories and a lasting appreciation of pastel de nata, the national pastry. Mike and Margie had a last getaway this February to Providence Canyon, Georgia. They enjoyed every minute of it and Margie will savor the memories.

Mike also became captivated with the Appalachian Trail, after watching “A Walk in the Woods”. He followed many hikers and was able to do several segments with his son, Matt and a final stretch solo in Georgia in Spring, 2025. His trail name became Loggerhead after he fell, hitting his head on a log. He knew he wasn’t fast but for him the joy was the preparation and finally being out on the AT.

Once Mike took up pickleball, he became obsessed. He played often as possible in Orlando, Ocala and wherever and whenever he could. He made sure courts were close by before leaving on a trip, he made many friends on the courts. His constant joke was “Pickleball is always the answer”.

Mike was also a ‘third generation meal worm farmer’ with worms passed down from his grandfather to his father. His niece, Larken had volunteered to take the worms for a fourth generation, which made Mike very happy. The worms will be relocated to Vermont soon.

Mike was a true believer in Jesus Christ and sought to find churches where he and Margie could serve and learn more about the Word of God. They were members of Family Church of Windermere while living in Orlando and became a member of Community Bible Church here in Ocala. Mike never hesitated to speak boldly about his faith and was known for ‘going the extra mile’ to help anyone in need.

Mike is survived by his wife, Marjorie Wright, sons Matthew Wright and Jeremy Midcap, his sister, Tedi Wright and her daughter, Larken Wright Kennedy. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Richard H. Wright, Jr.

Mike was a devoted son, frequently visiting both his parents in Virginia, especially as they aged and needed extra help. He was also a great son-in-law to Margie’s mom. Mike did not hesitate to move in with her along with Margie to help care for her in her later years. He was a loving and involved father to Matt and Jeremy and a devoted and loving husband to Margie.

Now his earthly body lays down to rest after a life well lived, his soul is in Heaven with God. He will be terribly missed by so many here on this earth, but we are celebrating his entrance into the arms of God.
