Michael Eugene Gillen, affectionately known as Mike, Mikey, or Mr. Miyagi, was born on September 26, 1954, in Toronto, Canada, and raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Mike lived a life filled with love, friendship, family, and a lifelong passion for boating and sports.
Mike dedicated 25 years of his career to National Grid, where he took pride in his work and built lasting friendships along the way. At age 60, Mike retired, hit the road for The Villages, Florida, and began his next great adventure alongside his beloved wife, Linda.
An avid sports enthusiast, Mike first mastered his golf game in The Villages before discovering a renewed passion for softball. He loved playing the game and went on to manage two teams, the Red Sox and the Baldwin Group. He also practiced regularly with his Miyagi group.
His passion for softball and sports extended far beyond the field. A devoted Boston sports fan, Mike faithfully cheered on his beloved Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and Boston Bruins. Whether playing, managing, or cheering from the sidelines, sports and the entire softball community were always a big part of his life.
Mike's greatest love story began in 1989 when he met Linda through a bowling league. The two went on their first date, January 11, 1990, beginning a beautiful love story as soulmates. They married on April 29, 1995, and enjoyed a lifetime of love, laughter, adventure, and cherished memories together.
Mike was the beloved husband of Linda, loving brother of Mark and his wife, Kim, cherished cousin of Jimmy Fama, and devoted son of the late Ralph and Jean Gillen.
Mike will be remembered for his love of family, his passion for sports, and the countless friendships and memories he made throughout his life. His presence will be deeply missed, but the love, laughter, and memories he leaves behind will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at Everglades Recreation Center, 5497 Marsh Bend Trail, Wildwood, FL 34785 on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, at 4:00-7:00 pm.
