Michael Lewis Brewer December 11, 1953 – October 15, 2024

Michael Lewis Brewer, a loving husband, brother, uncle, and friend, died peacefully at home with his wife, Gretel, by his side, on October 15, 2024, at the age of 70. He was born on December 11, 1953, in Orlando, Florida, to A. Max Brewer and Jeanne Teague Brewer. Mike grew up in Titusville, Florida, swimming and surfing at the beach, fishing and sailing on the Indian River, and playing in the orange groves. After earning a journalism degree from the University of Florida, a law degree from Nova Southeastern University, and a master's in taxation from UF, he settled in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, where he was a respected and highly regarded attorney and property owner.

In addition to his local law practice, specializing in tax and estate planning, Mike enjoyed growing citrus, hunting, fishing, surfing and sailing. He went on numerous surfing trips to Costa Rica with his wife and his brother. He shared his weekend hunting camp in South Carolina and his love of deer hunting with willing friends and fostered a new generation of hunters. He was an active member of the Anglers Yacht Club. Mike took great satisfaction in supporting deserving graduates of New Smyrna Beach High School through scholarship programs offered by The Anglers Club and the Mildred E. Small and Robert D. Toye Scholarship Trust. The legacy he leaves behind is the impact he made on New Smyrna Beach, especially the Canal Street area.

He quietly invested in, nurtured, and supported the community by extending a hand, giving a leg up, or offering an opportunity to others that allowed them to start a business or build a life. His family and friends appreciated Mike's generosity, his unpretentiousness, and the pleasure he got from having a spirited conversation.

Michael is survived by his wife, Gretel Meyers Brewer; his brother, Stephen Max Brewer (Winnie) of Titusville, FL; his sister Nancy Brewer Morgan (Mark) of New Smyrna Beach, FL; and his sister Kelly Brewer Marshall (Blake) of Palm Coast, FL. He was a special uncle to his many nephews and nieces and to their children as well.
