Michael Stephen
Mcdonagh
September 25, 1949 – April 19, 2026
Michael Stephen McDonagh, born September 25, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan, passed away on April 19, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Mike was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose greatest joy in life was his family. He shared a deep and enduring love with his wife, Sharon McDonagh, and took immense pride in his children.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon McDonagh; his daughters, Sherrie Nicholson and Danielle McDonagh; and his step-sons, Robert Bailey and Nicholas Bailey. He was preceded in death by his beloved sons, Michael J. McDonagh and Richard McDonagh, whom he loved dearly and carried in his heart always.
Mike came from a large and loving family and is survived by his siblings: John McDonagh, Kathryn McDonagh, James McDonagh, Kenneth McDonagh, Jane McDonagh, Peggy Bravo (McDonagh), MaryAnn Churchill (McDonagh), Patrick McDonagh, and Annette Donnelly (McDonagh). He was preceded in death by his brothers, Dennis McDonagh and David McDonagh. He held close the many memories made with his siblings growing up and loved retelling stories of their youth, especially during family reunions.
Mike dedicated 42 years of his career to Detroit Edison, where he worked as a journeyman lineman and ultimately a supervisor. He was a proud union steward, respected for his leadership, work ethic, and commitment to those he worked alongside, and formed many lifelong friendships with coworkers.
Outside of work, Mike found joy in life’s simple pleasures and was known for his great sense of humor and love of making others laugh. He loved watching hockey, playing chess, and working through number and word puzzles. He enjoyed fishing, lobstering, hunting, and especially cherished teaching his boys how to hunt. He had an appreciation for old cars, never passed up a good greasy spoon breakfast, and enjoyed trying his luck with Keno. Some of his happiest moments were spent taking long scenic drives with his beloved wife, Sharon, enjoying the changing landscapes along the way.
Mike spent his later years residing in Edgewater, Florida with his wife, Sharon.
He will be remembered for his strength, his quiet kindness, and the unwavering love he gave to those closest to him. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the many lives he touched.
In accordance with Mike’s wishes, no formal services will be held. A private celebration of life—what he fondly referred to as a “Party of Life”—will be held for his family.
