Obituary

Michael “Mike” Marion Schaeffer, 83, of Daytona Beach Shores, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Eloise Schaeffer. He is survived by his cousin, Greg Essen (Teresa); their daughter, Nicole (Eric) Wieczorek, and their two sons, Noah and Avery; and his beloved companion, Evelyn “Evie” Devine.

Mike was born on January 26, 1943, at St. Mary’s Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He moved to South Florida at the age of 14, where he excelled as a first baseman at Pompano Beach High School. After graduation, he attended Florida State University, where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and graduated in 1965 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

Mike served six years of honorable service in the U.S. Army Reserves before beginning his professional career as a stockbroker. He later joined the Paul Revere Life Insurance Company, where he spent several decades in senior management overseeing group and disability insurance throughout Florida. A longtime Central Florida resident, he was a founding member of the University Club of Orlando and an active member of the Country Club of Orlando, where he developed many enduring friendships.

Outside of his professional life, Mike loved cheering for his beloved Florida State Seminoles and St. Louis Cardinals. He attended countless Seminoles games as a lifelong booster and was at the center of many legendary tailgate parties. His boisterous personality, sense of humor, generous spirit, and extraordinary storytelling will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Mike lived a full and memorable life, leaving behind cherished memories and lasting friendships. He will be remembered for the joy, laughter, and generosity he brought to those around him.
