Obituary

Miles H. Jelinek, age 80, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at Cornerstone Hospice on Feb, 4, 2023. Miles was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and cherished friend to many.

Survived by Betty, his wife of 54 years, a daughter, Katie Halder (Kevin), a son, Miles III, (Summer) and grandchildren, Emily Halder Shatek (Nathan), Colton Halder, Noel Halder and Levita Jelinek and a host of nieces and nephews.

Miles was born on the south side of Chicago and went to Leo High school and DePaul University. While going to night school at DePaul he got a part time job as a runner on the floor of The Chicago Board of Trade in the futures market. After several years he was offered the opportunity to purchase a seat on the Board of Trade, and became one of the youngest members. He became a soybean trader and broker and spent the next 35 years doing what he loved.

After raising a family in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, Miles and Betty packed up their household and moved permanently to The Villages in 2000. He loved living the Villages lifestyle. He enjoyed so many things here especially golf and billiards. He had 4 hole-in-ones and enjoyed playing golf in the OF Golf Club and the Guys and Dolls Golf Club and going to Chicagoland Club. He loved traveling with cherished friends, old and new, especially to his happy place, Mexico. He loved life and had a wonderful laugh. Miles will be dearly missed by all who knew him. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, 1351 Paige Place, at 8:30 am on Saturday, April 15th followed by a Celebration of Life at Tierra Del Sol Recreation Center.
