Obituary

Millard "Mac" McKinney, aged 88, of Winter Garden, Orange County, FL, passed away on October 15, 2024. Born on November 30, 1935, in Logan, WV, Millard came from an impoverished family and was known for his straightforward, tenacious, and intelligent nature.

Millard had a 26-year distinguished military career in the United States Air Force retiring in 1980 as a Chief Master Sergeant (E9). CMSGT McKinney received multiple commendations to include the Bronze Star Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Good conduct Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award, Noncommission Officer Academy Graduate Ribbon, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Following his military service, Millard transitioned to a successful career as a City and County Building Official, serving Avon Park, Edgewood, Osceola County and Winter Garden, FL. Ultimately, he was affected by service-related disabilities. For years he volunteered teaching senior driving courses and eventually had to stop service to his community to care for his wife of 60 years, Ruth McKinney. After a decade of decline, he lost Ruth on 11/20/2020. He missed her terribly, and spoke of her often.

Millard "Mac" is survived by his daughter Angela Ritten, and sons Thomas Ghetto, David and Marc McKinney. He is also survived by grandchildren Shelby Glenboski, Cody and Logan Ritten, and Zachary McKinney, as well as, great grandchildren, Reagan and Olivia Glenboski and Cash Ritten.

Millard and Ruth's lives were marked by their dedication to family, country, and community. A service to honor Millard and Ruth's lives and legacy will be held at the VA National Cemetery, 5525 U.S. Highway 1, North Mims, FL, on Friday December 13th at 2pm. All who knew them are welcome to attend.
