Obituary

Myra Ann Mascaro, wife, beloved mother, nurse and faithful servant of God (Mayer) (87) of Edgewater, Florida, passed away on August 10, 2026, in the comfort of her home surrounded by family. 

Myra, daughter of Ambrose and Margaret(Schorr) Mayer. Born September 16, 1938, in McKeesport, P.A. She graduated from Duquesne High School in 1956, where she was in the German Club and the yearbook (Echo) She traveled with her husband to Germany and throughout the United States. 

Myra became an RN after attending Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, a hospital-based diploma school of nursing, in 1959. She also attended St Anslem College for nursing management. Throughout her career, she worked as a staff nurse, a Director of Nursing, and a Quality Nurse Consultant in Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Massachusetts, and Florida. She spent much of her nursing career dedicated to caring for geriatric patients, touching many lives. She spent her career caring for others, and in the last few years she cared for her husband, Pete, prior to his passing. 

She was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. In her retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at the local school. She was a member of the women's guild at her church, the Garden Club, and enjoyed traveling. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ambrose and Margaret (Schorr) Mayer. She was also preceded in death by her husband Pete of 61 years. She is survived by their 3 children, Tricia (Michael) Monroe of Lake Helen, FL, Peter of Edgewater, FL, Melissa (Jim) Goodspeed of Grand Island, FL; 9 grandchildren, Christopher (Angelyn) Swansburg, Melanie Swansburg, Nicholas Swansburg, Jacob Makoff, Zack Makoff, Chase(CJ) Goodspeed, Laura(Grace) Goodspeed, Annabel Goodspeed, Austin Akerson; Her brother, Tom, and many nieces and nephews. 

A Memorial Mass will be held on September 16, 2026, at 10:00 am at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Cremains burial will be at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, Mims, FL, following the Memorial Mass .

Arrangements have been entrusted to Baldwin Brothers Funeral and Cremation Society, New Smyrna Beach, FL. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Vitas Hospice.
