Obituary

Myrta "Marti" Rhodes Dillon of Sarasota, FL passed away peacefully on January 19 at the age of 78. Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, Marti was the second oldest of eight children born to Estrella and Hiram Silva.

Marti started her career as a Flight Attendant with Trans Caribbean Airways that was subsequently bought by American Airlines, leading to her relocation to California and marriage to her first husband with whom she had two boys, Dusty and Paul.

Marti married her husband of almost forty years, Thomas Alexander Dillon III (Tad), in 1984 while living in Corona del Mar, CA and they adopted their daughter, Jeanette. In 1986, Marti and Tad moved to Larchmont, NY with their three children. Their time in Larchmont, NY and Stamford, CT were the golden age for the family. Tad and Marti had many friends and enjoyed New York City on many occasions. Marti was known for her spunky personality, love for entertaining, and keeping a spotless home. Marti was very involved in her children's lives spending time volunteering with their schools and supporting their extracurricular activities. Perhaps she was most known for her love of dogs. With anywhere between one and four dogs in the household at a time, a common quote from friends and families was "when I die, I want to come back as one of Marti's dogs".

In addition to Tad, who survived Marti by a week, she is survived by her sons, Dusty (Ryan) Rhodes of Potomac, MD, Paul (Ashley) Rhodes of Newport Beach, CA, daughter Jeanette (Reed) Sutton of Canton, GA, and ten grandchildren along with sisters Silvia Silva and Lily (Larry) Freundlich and brothers Hiram (Elise) and Samuel (Ruth) Silva. She is preceded in death by her parents, Hiram and Estrella Silva, sisters Lorna Courtney, Vilma Silva, and Pilar Silva.

The family will be holding a memorial service for Marti and Tad on March 9 at Longboat Island Chapel at 1030am with a reception to follow at the Sarasota Yacht Club, Sarasota, FL. In lieu of sending flowers, please consider making a donation to your local ASPCA in Marti's name.

Marti will be laid to rest with Tad at the Pacific View Cemetery in Corona del Mar, CA.
