Myrtle Mae Butterbaugh (92 years young) passed away peacefully on September 17, 2026- surrounded by family.

Myrtle was the second child of Homer and Lenora (Haupt) Butterbaugh, born in Tarrytown, NY. She had 2 brothers (Vaughn and Melvyn), and 1 sister (Verla). She is predeceased by both parents, Vaughn, and Verla.

She attended Washington Irvin High School, there in Tarrytown. She was known there for her outstanding athletic ability- excelling in softball and basketball. She was always tough and the protector of her younger siblings. Taking care of family was a trait she would carry with her throughout her life.

She began her job with General Motors as a teenager, and stayed there for 31 years, until her retirement. Despite only 2 years of college, she taught herself and worked hard- and retired as a lead accountant. She was very proud of her work and time there. She had an exceptional work ethic. In addition to this, she helped at her parents’ family restaurant “Mr. & Mrs. B’s.”

In her own way, Myrtle always lived a life of service. When her father passed, she purchased a 4-story duplex to provide a home and close provision for her mother. She took care of her mother until her dying day. She also helped with the care of her younger sister, Verla- who was a single parent with many health issues. Though she never had any children of her own, she took care of her nieces and nephews and held them very close to her heart. She had a special place in her heart for her niece Susie, and her son Christopher. Until the day she died, she kept Christopher’s picture in her wallet. She gave freely and was uncomfortable receiving any gifts in return.

As an adult, she continued to enjoy the softball competition, golf, bowling, boating, and her favorite- Poker! After her mother passed away, she moved to Ormond Beach, Florida- which allowed her to continue these passions in her retirement. She was also the historian of the Butterbaugh family, keeping close records of history.

Those who knew her can all agree that she was equally tough and loving. Blunt and giving. She was unselfish, loving, caring, and extremely generous. She was sometimes rough around the edges, but she loved hard and gave freely.

She leaves behind one brother, Melvyn Butterbaugh (Lynnette) and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She leaves a lifetime friend- Nancy (Lanna). She left a legacy of generosity and giving and living life to its fullest. She will be deeply missed and always remembered.
