Obituary

Nancy C. Dingess, 82, of The Villages, Florida, passed away peacefully at her home on July 6, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer. Nancy was born on November 3, 1943, in Conway, Arkansas, to Burl Sellers and Avanell Graham. On June 5, 1965, she married the love of her life, Joseph E. Dingess, in Chapmansville, West Virginia. Together they shared 53 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in early 2019.

Nancy dedicated much of her professional life to serving others. After a successful career in retail management with Lazarus Department Store, she followed her passion for children by working in childcare. She nurtured countless young lives at several childcare centers, including OhioHealth Mansfield and North Central State College.

A woman of deep faith, Nancy loved the Lord and found strength in worship and Christian fellowship. She attended Lexington Church of Christ, Crossroads Community Church, Village View Community Church, and was always eager to visit and support other churches along her spiritual journey.

Nancy embraced life with enthusiasm and an adventurous spirit. She loved gathering with friends to play Mexican Train, table shuffleboard, enjoy a meal, or discuss the latest book as president of her book club. An avid runner in her younger years, she later found equal joy in daily walks. She also loved to travel, proudly visited all 50 states, including an unforgettable camping adventure in Alaska. Nancy lived most of her adult life in the greater Mansfield area. After spending numerous winters at The Villages in Florida, she made it her full time home in 2023.

Nothing brought Nancy greater happiness than her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished every opportunity to be surrounded by those she loved. She delighted in creating special memories through her beloved "Fun Fridays"-- when she turned ordinary places into noteworthy adventures. She will be remembered for her generous heart, thoughtful gifts, and the genuine interest she took in everyone she met.

Nancy is survived by her children, Shawn (Steve) Brooks, Joe (Christen) Dingess; her grandchildren, Lauren (Justin Hoyt) Dwyer, Kara Dingess, Brooke (Kyle) Matern, Bradley Dingess; her great-grandchildren, Carson Cosentino, Kane Matern, Grayson Matern, and another great-grandchild expected soon; plus a large extended family of brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear relatives. The time they spent together through family gatherings, holiday celebrations, vacations, and everyday moments meant the world to Nancy, and those bonds remained among her greatest blessings.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph E. Dingess; her parents, Burl Sellers and Avanell Graham; her stepmother, Mary Sellers; and two of her sisters, Sharon Armstrong and Sandy Jennings.

Nancy's immediate family will celebrate her life in a private ceremony in Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital via the following link, https://www.stjude.org/ a charity that reflected Nancy's lifelong love of children. Snyder Funeral Home, Lexington Avenue Chapel is honored to serve Nancy's family.
