Obituary

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Neal Lawrence Chamberlain on April 24, 2026, in Fort Myers, Florida, surrounded by his sons. Neal was 84 years old and leaves a legacy of love, family, and fond memories that will always be cherished by those who knew him.

Neal is survived by his devoted family: son Neal Lawrence Chamberlain Jr and spouse Kimberly of Savannah, GA; son Michael Lawrence Chamberlain and spouse Miranda of Sugar Hill, GA; and his beloved grandchildren Emily Marie, Sarah Mary, Liam Michael, and Libby Ryan Chamberlain. Neal’s memory also lives on through the many friends and lives he touched over the years.

Neal was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Carol of Fort Myers, Florida; his sister, Elaine Vieira of Saint Augustine, Florida; and his parents, Lawrence and Delores Chamberlain of Brewer, Maine. Born on October 23, 1941, in Old Town, Maine, Neal was the child of Lawrence A. Chamberlain and Delores Violet Morin. After graduating from John Bapst Catholic High School in Bangor, Maine, in 1961, Neal proudly served their country as a Radioman with the Minecraft Support Units in the Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis from 1961 to 1965.

Following his service, Neal raised his family in Brewer, Maine, building a successful career in advertising radio sales at stations including WGUY, Y101, and Rock100. Neal also enjoyed a stint as part co-owner of Bonnie and Clyde hair salon in Brewer. In 1986, the family moved to Southwest Florida, where Neal continued his radio career, embracing the warmth and opportunities the Sunshine State offered until retirement.

Despite loving life in Florida, Neal’s New England roots were always dear, and his Maine accent remained a charming trademark that never really faded. Spring brought special joy as the Red Sox began training in Fort Myers—a tradition Neal treasured, attending games with his son year after year. Neal relished New England-style restaurants that also came to the area, never passing up fried whole belly clams or a cold can of Moxie, which brought back fond memories of home.

Family was everything to Neal and he took immense pride in his sons’ achievements as Eagle Scouts, dedicating time volunteering with Troop 16 in Brewer, Maine. Neal also had a passion for doo-wop music, acting as the booking agent for “The Del Prados,” a local Fort Myers singing group, and spent many joyful weekends dancing with his wife Carol during performances. Neal’s kindness, generosity, and vibrant spirit left a mark on everyone he met. He loved traveling the world with Carol and treasured every moment spent with his sons and grandchildren in Georgia and traveling back to Maine when he was able.

A funeral service to honor Neal and Carol’s life is scheduled for 11:30am on June 29th, 2026, at the Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, Florida 34241.

Neal’s legacy is one of warmth, love, and unwavering family devotion—a guiding light that will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him. In lieu of flowers, should you wish to honor Neal’s memory, please consider making a donation to your favorite Humane Society or Animal Shelter in the name of their beloved dog Elsa.

Neal will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of their family and friends.
