Nicholas Thomas
DeTrano
June 9, 1942 – May 3, 2026
Nicholas Thomas De Trano, 83, of Clearwater, FL, died Sunday, May 3, 2026, of cardiovascular disease. Nick was born in Jamacia, Queens, NY, on June 9th, 1942, attended Northport HS, and briefly studied building construction with an eye toward a degree in architecture, at Aggie Tech in Farmingdale, NY. Nick went on to become a kitchen designer for Dun-Rite Kitchens and eventually moved to Florida where he met and married his final wife, Kris, in 1981. Over the next 4 decades, Nick was a Real Estate Broker, a computer programmer, a kitchen designer with Home Depot and, in retirement, a gas station attendant with Sam’s Club, and a cancer survivor. He was a valued member of the Kiwanis Club where he developed and implemented an annual free medical and dental clinic for the community. Nick worked with his daughter, Gina, a teacher at Sexton elementary school, to implement the All-Pro Dads program for the school. Nick was also active in his son Jeffrey’s Cub Scout and Boy Scout programs. Nick was charming, never took things too seriously, and had an easy sense of humor. Nick was a warm and friendly, loving, generous and genuinely kind man. Nick was everybody’s friend. No exceptions. But most importantly, Nick was happy. He lived the 1950’s American dream and he loved sharing his magical life story with anyone and everyone. He loved to travel. In his own words, his favorite guilty pleasure was, “Smoking my cigars and driving my 1960 Triumph TR3A sports car.” His absence will be deeply felt by cherished wife Kris, daughter Gina, son Jeffrey, son-in-law Steve, daughter-in-law Magda, mother-in-law BeeBe, grandsons Zachary, Elijah and Hudson, nephew Richie, ex-wife Jane, as well as beloved extended family members and treasured friends. Nick was predeceased in death by his son, Thomas and brother Richard. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you remember him with a contribution to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association. At his request, there will be no public memorial service on Nick’s behalf. Peace.
