Nick Camporeale's Obituary

Nick Michael Camporeale son of Michael & Maria Scivetti Camporeale was born in Giovinazzo, Italy on December 4, 1933. He graduated from Highland Falls High School, Class of 1951 and Orange County Community College, Class of 1953.  Married Dagmar Vacek February 21,1954 at Sacred Heart Church.

Employed at the Finance Office USMA, than at the First National Bank of Highland Falls, the Highland Falls Savings & Loan Association, President of the Port Jervis Savings & Loan (the oldest Savings & Loan in New York State chartered in 1838) Nyack Savings & Loan with nine branches in Orange, Rockland, and Westchester Counties.  He served as a Director of the Savings Association League of the State of New York,  In 1982 moved on to the position of President of the West Point Federal Credit Union, during which time he established a lasting reputation as a man of vision, generosity and compassion for those less fortunate.  Nick raised the West Point Credit Union from the brink of insolvency to a position of financial strength recognized by the award of the highest capital strength rating from the National Credit Union Administration. Nick garnered great credit for his orchestration of the move of the Credit Union from cramped quarters on West Point to the facility on Main Street, Highland Falls, for establishing full service branches at Stewart Army Subpost and the cadet area at West Point, and for expanding drive-up teller facilities, ATM and credit card services. Nick benefited the Credit Union for over a decade by setting high standards for himself and others, by manifesting both generosity and humor and by providing leadership, insightful organizing abilities, and rare keenness of judgment.

Nick was a member of the Town of Highlands Republican Committee and elected member of the Town Board, member of the Highland Falls Village Zoning Board of Appeals. member of the Board and Treasurer of the Cornwall Hospital, member of the Lay Board of St. Francis Hospital in Port Jervis, member and officer in the Highland Falls Lions Club, Port Jervis & Nyack Rotary Clubs.  Nick was also an avid bowler, skier and golfer.

He was predeceased by his parents and son, Robert Camporeale.  Survived by his wife Dagmar Camporeale of Dunnellon, Florida, granddaughter, Dana Camporeale of Greenville, South Carolina, brothers Frank of Cornwall, New York, Michael (Roxana) of Framingham, Massachusetts and sister Maria (Frank) of Fairfax, Virginia and several nieces and nephew.
