IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Norman
Currier
November 3, 1948 – November 6, 2024
Norman John Currier was born on November 3, 1948 in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Norman and Lorraine Currier. He grew up largely in the Panama Canal Zone with sister, Karen, and brother, Robert. He enjoyed swimming, body surfing, and fishing before graduating from Cristobal High School in 1966. A life-long Notre Dame fan, he attended his dream school, graduating in 1970 with a degree in finance, which he then followed with an MBA from Tulane.
After college, he returned to the Canal Zone, where he met the love of his life, Peggy. They were active members of the community, often acting in the little theater. They married in 1977 and moved to Louisiana in 1978, where their three children, Lori, Patrick, and Michelle, were born before the family moved to Tennessee.
Norman worked a long career in retail as a buyer and as a manager. He was beloved by his employees, with more than one describing him as "the best boss they ever had." He retired in 2015 and relocated to Florida in 2016, where he rapidly became a well-respected and well-liked member of the community known for his unique laugh, generosity, and sense of humor.
His life changed forever in 2019 when he suffered a debilitating brain aneurysm. He persevered through seven brain surgeries, becoming an active member of the adaptive sports community and an inspiration to all who knew him.
Norman died peacefully on November 6, 2024, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Peggy, and his children Lori (Ethan) Hattendorf, Patrick (Lauren) Currier, and Michelle Currier and his grandson Joseph Hattendorf. He is also survived by his sister Karen Ponthiuex, his brother Robert (Daphne) Currier, and his many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm on November 16, 2024, at Baldwin Brothers in New Smyrna Beach. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to one of his favorite charities, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Fisher House.
