Obituary

Norman Lee Sasser Jr., beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on August 12th, 2024. A proud native Floridian, with deep roots in Eastern North Carolina, he grew up as Central Florida grew up, over seven decades. Born in Lakeland, he excelled in both academics and athletics. The valedictorian of his Kathleen High School class, Lee played the tuba, baseball, and football.

Lee was a "double Gator." He graduated from the University of Florida, earning a bachelor's degree in business with high honors and a law degree with honors. He was a member of Florida Blue Key, and president of his fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon. A true mentor, he continued his leadership commitment as new chapter advisor to the SAE house at the University of Central Florida.

In 1984 Lee founded a successful family law practice, helping people during difficult times. For years he was named a best family lawyer in Orlando by Best Lawyers and received the Thomas V. Behan Collaborative Excellence Award for his pioneering efforts to bring alternatives to courtroom litigation for families. He was dedicated to his craft, and practiced alongside his wife Nancy until retirement, marking nearly five decades of a distinguished career.

Lee enjoyed life's simple pleasures. You'd find him fishing Lake Rowena early in the morning, surf-casting New Smyrna Beach or the Outer Banks, and hunting redfish in Mosquito Lagoon. He caught a lot of fish! He was a woodworker, an avid reader, history buff, and diehard Gator fan. A dedicated family man, Lee coached his daughters' soccer and softball teams, and led his kids' Indian Guides & Princess troops. He was The Great Bald Eagle.

Lee instilled a love of nature in his family. He spent weekends camping with his kids, exploring Blue Springs State Park and the Canaveral National Seashore. He was happiest on the water, spending his days at New Smyrna Beach, and watching sunsets on his lakeside patio.

Lee is survived by his wife Nancy Weber; his children Emily Sasser (Joey Berkowitz), Andrea Masterson (Colby), and Brian Sasser (Rachel); and his beloved grandchildren Ella, Tommy Lee, Alexandra, Grant, and Harrison. His passing was sadly preceded in death last month by his sister, Lillian Bridwell-Bowles.

Lee left the world a better place.

In lieu of flowers, Lee would appreciate a donation to the Marine Discovery Center in New Smyrna Beach. Widely recognized as a regional resource for the Indian River Lagoon, the Marine Discovery Center is centered on education and outreach in an effort to preserve, protect, and restore the lagoon for generations to come.
