After 74 years of marriage, a lifetime of ministry, and an unwavering devotion to the Lord, Norm and Val Mydske are now reunited in the presence of their Savior. Their lives were a testament to Proverbs 3:5-6—trusting in the Lord with all their hearts, faithfully walking the path He set before them.
Norm was born on November 13, 1928, in Seattle, WA, and Val on February 14, 1930, in Chicago, IL. They met at Prairie Bible Institute, where they both committed their lives to ministry, and were married in 1951. Together, they raised four daughters while working with the Billy Graham Crusades, serving in Latin America for nearly 30 years, helping to build Christian radio stations, leading Bible studies, and mentoring others in faith.
Following Hurricane Mitch in 1998, they founded Vision Nicaragua —a mission close to Val's heart—bringing aid, building homes, providing medical care, and mobilizing others to serve the people in the villages around Chinandega. During this time, Norm was also instrumental in Billy Graham's My Hope project, which led many thousands to Christ.
Beyond their ministry, Norm had a passion for tennis and golf, boasting four Hole-in-Ones to his name, while Val poured her heart into art, music, and loving those around her. But above all, their greatest joy was their faith, their family, and their love for each other.
Norm and Val are survived by their four daughters – Trish Graham (and Frank), Pam (and Jeff) Swanson, Mary (and Steve) Osborne, and Beth (and Andrew) Donnangelo; as well as 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and countless lives touched by their legacy.
A Celebration of Their Lives will be held on Friday, March 28, at 3:00 PM at the Southern Oaks Campus of Live Oaks Community Church, 5600 Heritage Blvd, Wildwood, FL 34785 .
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Vision Nicaragua in their honor. Online donations: visionnicaragua.org. Checks: Vision Nicaragua, PO Box 2172, Fairview, NC 28730
