Obituary

Alfred Paul Covelli or Al as he preferred to be called, at age 88 went to his eternal resting place at his home in New Smyrna Beach Florida on Saturday October 25 th . Al was born on June 16, 1937 in Clairton, Pennsylvania.  He is survived by his wife Audrie Covelli, daughter Angela Eirich, son Blaise Covelli, son- in- law Tim Eirich, daughter- in- law Keri Covelli, grandson Tyler Covelli and granddaughter Ava Covelli. Al was preceded in death by his 5 siblings, brother Joseph (Rose) Covelli, sisters, Rosaria (Steve) Cingle, Antonintte Covelli, Betty (Harry) Santoline and Virgina (Harold) Burens. He also had numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews who loved and adored their Uncle Al.

Al graduated from Clairton High School in 1955. After High School he worked at the US Steel Mill, Clairton Works up until 1957 and then enlisted in the US Navy in which he served until 1961. During the 1960's Al then worked at US Steel-Duquesne Works as an IBM Machine Operator. He graduated from Duquesne University in 1970 with a Bachelor of Business Degree and then moved to Northern Virginia. There he worked as an auditor for the US Treasury Department, Bureau of Printing and Engraving. In 1973 Al was hired as a US Postal Inspector, Federal Agent.  He held this position until mandatory retirement in 1994. At the age of 57 Al was not ready to retire permanently, so he worked as a Special Investigator with the Federal Bureau of Investigation until 2015.

Al was an avid reader, he enjoyed golfing, making his homemade wine labeled Covelli Wines, collecting art and traveling extensively to European Countries. His favorite European Country was his motherland, Italy. He and his beloved wife Audrie traveled to Puglia, Italy last year to celebrate their 60 th wedding anniversary. If you wanted to talk sports Al was your guy. He enjoyed watching football, college basketball and baseball and was a huge fan of his Pittsburgh Sports Teams, especially the Steelers. Anyone who meet Al felt instantly connected to him as he was warm, caring and made you feel comfortable as he sought to get to know you. A mass of Christian Burial will take place at Our Lady Star of the Sea on Tuesday November 18th at 11:00am. Military honors will be rendered at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery at 2:00pm. We want to ensure that Al's friends and family are able to pay their final respects to him in a celebration of life.
