Obituary

Anthony (Tony) Monroe Combs, 47, of Mount Dora, FL, passed away with the help of Cornerstone Hospice on August 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Tony lost a hard-fought battle with cancer, showing the same strength and determination he carried throughout his life.

Born January 20, 1978, in Kentucky, Tony grew up with a deep love for family, country, and the simple joys of life. During his time at Tavares High School, he was a standout football quarterback and was even scouted for his talent — a testament to his leadership, discipline, and competitive spirit. He proudly went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps, embodying the values of honor, courage, and commitment both in service and in everyday life.

Tony never met a stranger — his warm smile and easy conversation made friends wherever he went. A devoted husband, dad, and son, he poured his heart into caring for those he loved. He had a lifelong passion for University of Kentucky football and basketball, cheering on his Wildcats through every season. He also found joy in collecting and restoring antiques, treasuring the stories they carried.

He is survived by his wife, Brooke Combs; children, Callie Combs and Charlotte Combs; stepchildren, Emma Atkins and Lucy Atkins; and mother, Pamela Combs.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Combs, and his brother, James Combs.

A celebration of Tony's life will be held at Bushnell National Cemetery Friday, September 5, 2025 at 12:30 PM. Friends and family are invited to gather, share memories, and honor a man who made the world brighter simply by being in it. And just as he did through every Kentucky game, his loved ones will remember him with a heartfelt, "Go Big Blue!" — knowing he's now cheering from the best seat in the house.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of choice in Tony's memory.
