IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Arnoldo
Perez
July 29, 1934 – November 18, 2025
Arnoldo Perez, 91 of Ocala, FL went to be with the lord on November 18th, 2025.
Arnoldo was born and raised in Osorno Chile to his father Juan Roberto Perez and his mother Mariana Ovando Catalan. And is of pure Mapuche Indian blood line. He immigrated to the United States through Chicago Illinois back in 1958 through a work visa as a professional horseman who was an exercise rider and horse breeder with over 54 years of experience. He traveled all over the states to train thoroughbred horses to become winners on the Race Tracks of Chicago, California, Arkansas, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Florida, New Jersey and New York. The majority of his life he spent in the great state of New York where he worked under well known owner/trainers Todd Pletcher, Dwayne Lukas and Frank (Pancho) Martin. In addition raced their best winning horses on the famous Belmont Race Track and Saratoga Race Track. His most exciting time of his life was making sure the horse he trained would make it to the Belmont Stakes which is a $2 million dollar purse. He loved what he did for a living and worked till the age of 70 when he finally retired and moved to Ocala, FL with his wife Elva Perez. He was a loving husband, father and brother who provided for his family in every way possible. He helped many people in his lifetime to obtain legal work visas to become a permanent resident of the United States. Chile made many friends over the years who loved him dearly because he was always helping people. Arnold was a big animal advocate. In his eyes you were to never abuse a horse or any other animal.
He met his beloved wife Elva while working the winter months of December at the well known Hialeah Race Track. They met at a trainers horse racing gala event in 1966 and fell in love. They were married in 1967. They had their one and only daughter Mariana Perez.
By coincidence his wife Elva was born and raised in Havana, Cuba and knew owner/trainer Frank (Pancho) Martin from Cuba and his entire family. They always say it's a small world and certain things happen for a god given reason. So, his soon to be wife knew his boss from her country prior to being married.
He was Licensed through the Kentucky State Racing Commission, Hialeah Race Course, Gulfstream Park, Tampa Bay Downs, Illinois Racing Board, Washington Park Jockey Club, Hawthorne Race Course, Sportsman Park, Santa Anita Park Racing Course, Monmouth Park Jockey Club, Atlantic City Racing Association, Garden State Park, Arlington Park, NYRA for Belmont, Aqueduct and Saratoga as well as the famous Balmoral Race Track which operated from 1926 till December 2015 in Crete, Illinois. Al Capone owned the famous Hawthorne Smoke Shop in Cicero, Illinois, a casino that included horse betting. He was very much involved in horse racing in Florida as well till his death in 1947. His known associates took over after his death.
Arnold Perez is survived by his loving wife Elva Perez, only daughter Mariana Perez and youngest brother Juan Ovando Perez.
