Obituary

Beverly Adams McMakin, who passed away peacefully at her home in The Villages, Florida, on December 8, 2025, at the age of 83, surrounded by her family. Beverly is survived by her husband, William McMakin III, and her son, William McMakin IV, of Lexington, Kentucky. She was the beloved daughter of Mariceta and Vince Adams.

Beverly was born on February 23, 1942, in Louisville, Kentucky. During her childhood, her family relocated to a farm in Crestwood, Kentucky. It was during her high school years that she met the love of her life, Billy McMakin, with whom she shared 61 wonderful years of marriage.

A graduate of Oldham County High School in 1960, Beverly earned her business degree from the University of Kentucky in 1964, where she was also a member of the ZTA sorority. Following her graduation and subsequent marriage to Billy, she worked as a secretary for various reputable real estate and banking firms. Beverly later became an indispensable part of her husband's pharmacy, Head's Drugstore in La Grange, Kentucky, where she managed bookkeeping and other responsibilities.

Beverly was an avid golfer, achieving two holes-in-one in Florida. She often remarked, "I never know who's going to show up for my game, so if you play with me, you get unlimited Mulligans." Her lifelong friends from Oldham County and cherished neighbors from The Villages enriched her life greatly, and to them, we extend our deepest gratitude. Beverly also enjoyed reading, playing cards, and games with friends. She and Billy were blessed with a son, Bill, whom she adored.

In 2003, Beverly was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and faced its challenges with remarkable courage. She actively participated in numerous trials with the Michael J. Fox Foundation in hopes of finding a cure. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in her memory to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, located in Hagerstown, Maryland, or online at michaeljfox.org.

In accordance with her wishes, Beverly will be cremated.  A celebration of Beverly's life will be held in Kentucky in the spring of 2026.
