Billy J. McMurphy, 85, of Groveland, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025, leaving behind a legacy filled with love, kindness, and heartfelt memories that will never be forgotten.
Born on August 3, 1940, in Leesburg, Florida, Billy's life was a beautiful testament to devotion, service, and unwavering dedication. He married the love of his life, Lynda Gilliard McMurphy, and together they shared 64 extraordinary years of joy, love, and treasured moments that shaped a lifetime. Billy proudly served his country as a brave paratrooper in the U.S. Army, an inspiring chapter that forged his strength, discipline, and resilience, qualities that carried him through every challenge with unmatched courage. After his military service, he dedicated 38 years to Florida Power, earning a reputation as a dependable, skilled, and genuinely caring employee whose integrity touched everyone he met.
A natural athlete, Billy's passion for sports was infectious. Whether he was on the field or simply cheering from the sidelines, he loved every game with all his heart and had an extraordinary talent for mastering whatever sport he embraced. His competitive spirit was only matched by his warm heart, kindness, and sincere love for others. Billy truly enjoyed visiting the casino, eagerly playing the slot machines and enthusiastically shooting craps. Billy will be deeply remembered as a good man, a loving husband, a devoted father, a proud grandfather, and an adoring great-grandfather. His family was his greatest treasure, and he cherished every precious moment together, his heart overflowing with love.
He leaves behind his children, Mandy Messer (Tony) and Mark McMurphy (Kim); his grandchildren, Blake Messer (Jessica), Taylor Moncaleano (Sebastian), Colby McMurphy, and Carson McMurphy; and his great-grandchildren, Jameson Messer, Isaac Moncaleano, and Mia Moncaleano. Billy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lynda; his parents Warren and Gladys; his siblings Warren, Jack, Hubert, Mary, and Nell; and his great-grandchildren Olivia and Bennett–family who meant everything to him and who will always be in his heart.
A heartfelt Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at 1520 Legacy Woods Court, Groveland, FL 34736. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Winking Warrior Foundation—a cause that was close to his heart and an extension of his legacy of compassion.
