Camille M. Sherman, 82, of The Villages, FL passed away on Sunday, October 5th at Buffalo Crossing Rehab Facility while under the care of Cornerstone Hospice. She was born in New York City on January 26, 1943, the eldest daughter of Agnes (Ida) Taibi and Vincent J. Filigenzi. Camille married John LaPolla on September 8, 1962 and they owned a very successful upholstery business in East Northport, NY. He preceded her in death on May 9, 1975. Together they had three children, John LaPolla of The Villages, FL; Denise Cotroneo of Rocky Point, NY and Marie Smith of Wakefield, MA.
Camille was a 1961 graduate of St. Agnes High School at Collage Point Queens, NY and Woods Secretarial School. She worked for Grumman Aerospace Corporation as a Repairs Coordinator for the U.S. Army's IFTE support equipment program and later for Northrop Grumman Corporation as the Repairs Coordinator for the navigation system on the U.S. Army's Apache helicopter. She retired on January 26, 2003 and moved to The Villages, FL. to enjoy the relaxed life style.
Camille enjoyed cooking fantastic Italian food, making thousands of Christmas cookies for medical staff personal who provided endless support during her many visits, reading, creating personized unique cards and jewelry for family members, crocheting and "saving" houseplants with her loving tender care on the lanai. She enjoyed being a clown in Clown Alley 179. Her clown name was "Sugar", and she did face painting for the children and seniors alike. She also loved going on cruises, but most of all spending time hosting parties/dinners with friends and neighbors, but she never forgot her love of the "Big City" and the excitement of Broadway and the folks back home.
On June 23, 2000, Camille eloped to Las Vegas, NV to marry Robert (Bob) Sherman. Bob has one son from a previous marriage Robert Jr. of Davenport FL. Camille is survived by her loving and devoted husband; brother Vincent L. Filigenzi of Brightwaters, NY; her sister Pamala L. Rago of Coram, NY; four granddaughters, Stephanie Cotroneo of Kannapolis, NC; Nicole Cotroneo of Mooresville, NC; Kayla Smith and Melissa Smith of Wakefield, MA; two grandsons, Jonathan Cordoza and Adrian Sherman of Davenport, FL. God has blessed her with two great-grandchildren, Brayden Shue of Kannapolis, NC and Remi Cotroneo of Mooresville, NC and her many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
