IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carolyn
Hall
April 7, 1949 – September 18, 2025
Carolyn Hall (Bach), 76, of Daytona Beach Shores, Florida, passed away on September 18, 2025, at Advent Health Memorial Hospital after a long and courageous battle with multiple sclerosis. Carolyn is preceded in death by her father, Michael Bach, and mother, Delores Bach.
Carolyn was born in Detroit, Michigan, and graduated second in her class from Henry Ford High School in 1967. She began her college studies at Michigan State University, majoring in Dietetics. While working at the Owen Graduate Dormitory cafeteria at MSU, Carolyn met Dave, who would later become her husband. They both worked bussing tables, and their budding romance blossomed; the two were married in 1970. At the time, Dave had just completed his degree and was serving as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army at Fort Hood, Texas.
Carolyn postponed her senior year at Michigan State to join Dave at Fort Hood for his final three months of stateside service before he deployed to Vietnam in August 1970. During his deployment overseas, Carolyn returned to MSU to continue her studies.
Carolyn began her professional journey in 1971 after Dave completed his Army commitment. That year, she was accepted into the dietetic internship program at the University of Michigan. Among a class of ten, she was one of only two students invited to remain at the University of Michigan Hospital as a registered dietitian. Her dedication and expertise soon drew the attention of a public health professor at the university, who recognized her potential and offered her a scholarship to pursue a Master's Degree in Public Health. Carolyn accepted the opportunity and successfully earned her MPH degree. Following this achievement, she continued her work at the University of Michigan Hospital, contributing to the field with commitment and professionalism.
Carolyn was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1974 after experiencing symptoms including double vision and numbness in her extremities. Following the diagnosis, she and Dave made a steadfast commitment to face the disease together and never, ever give up in their fight against it. Their shared determination to battle MS became a defining part of Carolyn's journey, reflecting the strength and resilience that marked her life.
In 1978, Dave's job transferred him to Duluth, Minnesota, where he managed a full-line foodservice distribution company. Carolyn secured a position with the St. Louis County Health Department. After enduring four long winters, they chose to relocate to the Orlando area in search of a warmer climate and new opportunities.
In 1982, Dave arranged a transfer within his company to facilitate the move. Around the same time, Carolyn began her first role at Florida Hospital—now known as AdventHealth—marking the beginning of her professional journey in Florida.
Carolyn began a new chapter in 1984 when she launched her own consulting business, partnering with an Orlando-based company that operated ten nursing homes across Florida. A few years later, Carolyn and Dave welcomed their daughter, Kristin. Carolyn remained dedicated to her work until 2007, when the progression of multiple sclerosis made it difficult for her to continue driving.
In response, Dave chose to take early retirement so they could continue exploring the world together. Despite the challenges posed by her condition, Carolyn and Dave embraced travel with determination, flexibility, and joy—journeying throughout the United States and abroad, often with the aid of a walker, and later, a wheelchair. They also enjoyed many memorable cruises during these years.
In 2015, Carolyn and Dave moved to Daytona Beach Shores, Florida. As Carolyn's MS progressed, they faced the difficult decision of transitioning her care. Recognizing that he could no longer provide the level of support she required, Dave made the heartfelt choice to seek professional care for her.
In August 2022, Carolyn moved to Solaris Healthcare, a highly respected skilled nursing facility. There, she received exceptional care from a compassionate and dedicated staff who worked tirelessly to ensure her comfort. Despite the challenges posed by her illness, including the gradual loss of mobility, Carolyn remained resilient—never complaining and always greeting others with a smile and spirit of positivity.
Carolyn found great joy in playing golf with Dave and was an enthusiastic football fan, following both college and professional games with passion. Music was another source of happiness in her life—she especially loved listening to the Beach Boys, the Beatles, the Bee Gees, and the Eagles. Carolyn took pride in her accomplishments, including putting herself through college without incurring any debt—a testament to her determination.
Carolyn is survived by her loving husband Dave; daughter Kristin Manzoli; son-in-law Nick Manzoli; two beautiful grandchildren Maddie and Lucas; sister Sharron Troutman, and many other beloved family members and friends.
Carolyn and Dave shared deep gratitude for their church family at All Saints Lutheran Church. The love and support they received, especially during Carolyn's time at Solaris, brought them great comfort and meant a great deal to both of them.
Carolyn was a true warrior in her fight against MS. We will always miss her but are comforted in knowing she is in God's embrace and free of the pain and suffering she endured. Her courage, fearlessness and positivity will leave a lasting impression on those who knew her.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at All Saints Lutheran Church, Port Orange, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the National MS Society in Carolyn's honor.
