Charles (Chuck) Edward Sautter

Chuck met life as it happened with intelligence, compassion, humor, and candor. He was truly a Renaissance man of many talents.

He earned his pilot's license, including spins, at the University of Miami, Ohio. He did amateur sports car racing – once on the ice on Lake Minnetonka (MN). He bought an O'Day 23 and a J24 sailboat and sailed in many big races, such as the J24 Nationals in Key West and in Chesapeake Bay. He became the first national J24 fleet captain (of the first J24 one design). He signed on large sail boats as crew for the opportunity to race these boats between Miami and Nassau. In one race, written up by Sports Illustrated, he competed in water so rough, two boats sank.

After he left sailing, he turned to building and flying large, remote control aircraft —one of which had an 8 foot wingspan. Chuck had an artistic side, also. He studied Chinese Brush Stroke painting and created many stunning pieces, along with wildlife and nature scenes in water color, acrylics, metal, wood, and clay.

After his first heart attack in a Twin Cities (MN) bike race, he turned to tennis. It was there on a tennis court that he met his second wife, Audre, and began their journey of 28 joyful years together. Upon retirement from the commodities market, he and Audre became "snowbirds" and moved part-time to Florida where he played tennis in earnest and fished the inter coastal waters from his Pathfinder 22 or his kayak. During summers in Minnesota he took great joy in fly fishing for trout in the region's many beautiful streams. Chuck immersed himself fully in whatever activity he was engaged in at the time .

He will be deeply missed by his wife Audre; by his two step children and their spouses Kathleen (Brad), Tom (Diane); his six grandchildren, Logan, Grace, Luke (Savannah), Beau, Jonas, Lilly; by his siblings Sue, Chris, John, and Patty (Ken); by his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Ben (Ann), Jeanette, and Joy; and his many wonderful friends.
