David Louis Schaefer

July 14, 1955 – September 10, 2025

David Louis Schaefer, 70, passed away on September 10, 2025, in Ocala, Florida. Born on July 14, 1955, in Buffalo, New York, David lived a life of dedication to his country and devotion to his family.

David attended Kingswood Regional High School in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army. He went on to attend Flight School at Fort Rucker, Alabama, where he trained as a helicopter pilot. After completion of flight school, his first duty assignment was in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he was the youngest Warrant Officer on base.

On May 3, 1975, David married the love of his life, Penny, in Arlington, Virginia. They shared 50 years of marriage and together raised three sons.

David dedicated 20 years to serving his country both stateside and abroad. After retiring from active duty, he continued his career, sharing his expertise as a Flight Safety Instructor for Flight Safety Boeing. His commitment to aviation safety and excellence left a lasting impact on those he mentored.

In retirement, David and Penny moved to Florida to be close to his parents. He enjoyed golfing, lunch with the guys, traveling with Penny and Robert, and spending time with neighbors whose friendship brought him joy. He especially loved hosting neighborhood gatherings, including the annual New Year's Eve bash, which became a cherished tradition. Some of his fondest memories were the many trips to Disney World with Penny, Robert, his children, grandchildren, and extended family.

David's life was defined by compassion and service. He was a devoted caretaker who approached every challenge—including raising a special needs son—with dedication and love. His sense of duty extended beyond the military; it was evident in the way he supported all those around him. David will be remembered for his love of family, his service to his country, and his generous spirit.

He is survived by his wife Penny, three sons; Robert, William (Jenny), and Christopher, and seven grandchildren—Connor, Tristan, Averie, Reegan, Harper, Liam, and Grady—each of whom brought him great pride. He is also survived by his sisters Gale (Alan) and Barbara (Adrian), and his Uncle Tim, along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who were touched by his kindness and strength. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Judy Schaefer. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sequoia Therapeutic Recreation, continuing David's dedication supporting individuals with special needs.
