Obituary

Dennis Joseph VanWaes ("Van"), 78, of Eustis, Florida, went home to the Lord on December 4, 2025, unexpectedly. Dennis was born in Kewanee, IL on July 25, 1947, to Frank and Kathryn VanWaes. Dennis was married to his loving wife, Linda J. VanWaes (Hunt) for 59 years. He attended Leesburg High School and worked as Service Department Manager for Key Scales Ford until he retired after 39 years.

Dennis' favorite activities included fishing, boating, golfing, playing cards, going on cruises, traveling to his favorite place, Alaska, and attending the NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville. Dennis was a big-hearted man who was sweet and kind to everyone, a big teddy bear. When he smiled, his eyes twinkled. He was a big man and was affectionally called "Big Foot". He was a protector of everyone he loved and adored.

Dennis is survived by his devoted wife, Linda VanWaes; daughter, Kimberly VanWaes Belcher (George Wayne), son, Joseph Dean VanWaes (Candace); grandchildren, Daniel Ralph Hezlep, Jr. (Melissa), Kristilin Marie Belcher, Seth Dean VanWaes (Nicole), Lindsey Summerlin Gonzalez (Nick), Ashley Melisse Summerlin, Michael Belcher (Elizabeth), brother Frank William VanWaes, 11 great-grandchildren and 4 grand-dogs.

A Celebration Open House will be held Tuesday December 9, 2025 from 2 – 4 pm at the family home located at 1603 Sheffield Road, Leesburg, FL 34748. Friends and family are welcome to come and share stories and celebrate Dennis' life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dennis' favorite charity,  Florida Sheriff's Association at www.FLSheriffs.org .
