It is with heavy hearts that the family of Edward "Ed" Lawrence Wernecke III announce his passing on November 6th, 2025. Ed passed peacefully surrounded by his family.
Ed was born on October 30th,1959, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to his loving parents, Edward and Martha (Schaffer) Wernecke. A proud Pittsburgh native, Ed was a devoted Steelers fan who never missed a game and carried that passion throughout his life.
Ed grew up in Davenport, Iowa, where he excelled both in the classroom and on the field. He played football, baseball and basketball, later continuing his athletic career at St Ambrose College, where he graduated after playing both football and baseball. His competitive spirit remained defining parts of who he was.
After college, Ed moved to Clearwater, Florida- a decision that would shape the rest of his life. It was there that he met his wife, Diane, and together they built a beautiful family. His two children, Rachel and Eddie, were his pride, joy and the center of his world.
Ed dedicated 36 years of his professional life to Picerne Development, where he served as Executive Vice President and Director of Operations. His work ethic, leadership and unwavering commitment earned the respect of everyone around him.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Martha (Schaffer) Wernecke and Edward Wernecke II, as well as his in- laws, Robert Pitman and Beverly (Beckett) Pitman.
He is survived by his wife, Diane (Pitman) Wernecke; his daughter, Rachel Wernecke; his son, Edward "Eddie" Wernecke IV; his two sisters, Bethann Williams of Des Moines, Iowa, and Pattie Dusenbery of Wilton, Iowa; and his brother Billy Wernecke of Rockport, Missouri.
Those who knew Ed described him as relentless in his pursuit of success, determined in everything he did, charming, quick-witted, motivated and deeply loyal. He lived with unquestionable integrity and had a natural gift for leadership. To many, he was truly one of a kind.
Ed's legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched- with his humor, his kindness, and his unwavering love for his family.
