IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Edwin
Pickens
October 6, 1936 – October 5, 2025
Edwin Neil Pickens, 88 of The Villages, Florida, passed away peacefully on October 5th, 2025 at Generations Senior Living, just one day before his 89th birthday.
He leaves his daughter, Catherine Pickens Radd; his sister, Sharon Herron; sister in laws Nancy Ball, Katharine Wood, Evelyn Wood, Babette Pickens and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Fannie Perkins Pickens and Eustace Hill Pickens; his brothers, Richard and Roger Pickens; brother in laws Thomas Wood, John Wood, Allan Wood and William Ball. Sister in laws Jane Wood and Movita Pickens have also passed.
Neil was born on October 6, 1936, in Sand Fork, West Virginia. He moved to North East, Maryland in 1956{. He married his beloved wife, Catherine Wood, on November 8, 1958.
He spent most of his career as a skilled electrician, known for his dedication, work ethic, and craftsmanship. In 1985, Neil and Catherine purchased Appalachian Campsites, a campground they proudly operated for many years. Together, they created a welcoming place where families could gather, relax, and make lasting memories. (Dad said, "that was his favorite job".)
After retiring from the campground, Neil and his wife moved to North East, Maryland to be closer to family. They cherished spending time with loved ones, traveling, and continuing their shared passion for camping and exploring new places. Eventually, they settled in The Villages, Florida, where they built new friendships and became active members of their community. Neil especially appreciated his time participating in the Parkinson's activities and the support and companionship found there.
Neil will be remembered for his steady kindness, dry humor, and deep love for his family and friends. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the memories he helped create.
