Obituary

Gerard "Gerry" Edward Melody, 70, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2025, in Ormond Beach, Florida. Born on November 10, 1955, in Detroit, Michigan, to James and Sophie Melody, Gerry lived a life marked by grit, humor, and a deep capacity for love.

Gerry is survived by his son, Gerry Melody; his daughters, Andrea (Steven) Reale and Nichole (Joseph) Smith; his grandchildren, John Heater and Natalia Reale; and his sister, Mary Ann Melody (John). He also leaves behind several cousins and a wide circle of friends who became family along the way.

A proud and longtime member of AA, Gerry celebrated over 30 years of sobriety, an achievement that transformed his life and allowed him to touch countless others. As a sponsor, he offered guidance, compassion, and hard-won wisdom, helping people find hope when they needed it most. Many remember him as a steady voice, a patient listener, and someone who understood the courage it takes to choose recovery every single day.

Gerry found joy in the rumble of motorcycles, the comfort of a good meal, and the thrill of a great movie. He was a motorcycle enthusiast with a knack for spotting beauty in chrome and history in every curve. He also had an odd sense of humor, and was always joking around and laughing and playing pranks. He was an American patriot, who loved to argue politics.

Above all, Gerry was a man who loved his family fiercely. He cherished time with his children and grandchildren, finding pride in their accomplishments and comfort in their closeness. His presence was steady, warm, and wonderfully human. He will be deeply missed.

Gerry leaves behind a legacy of resilience, love, and kindness. Though his absence is felt profoundly, his memory will continue to guide and inspire those fortunate enough to have known him.
