Howard Lee Hermann, "Howie", of Cape Coral, Florida, passed away at home on November 24, 2025. Howie was born July 25, 1945, in St. Paul, Minnesota, raised in Roseville, attended Alexander Ramsey High School, where he met Gail Füerstenberg. Howie and Gail married in 1969 and went on to build a beautiful home and family in Shoreview.
He was a proud member of the Army Reserves. Howie and his brother developed skills and a love of everything cars and auto repair from their dad. Together Al and Howie opened a car sales and full-service station in New Brighton, which became Hermann's Highway Service that lasted over 40 years. His customers and his friends knew he was an honest, respectful and loving man.
In 2023 he left the cold Minnesota weather to live in Florida. He spent his days in shorts and T-shirts sitting by the water, enjoying the warmth, a cigar, his family, and his great grandsons.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Gail; parents, Len & Mary Hermann (nee Sowieja); father-in-law, Al Fuerstenburg; brother-in-law, Roger Fuerstenburg; brother-in-law, Jim Courtney; and sister-in-law, MaryEllen Johnson Hermann.
He is survived by his daughter, Christine George (Christopher) of Cape Coral, Florida; son, Gregory of Forest Lake, Minnesota; brother, Al of Loch Lloyd, Missouri; sisters, Marilyn Novak (Bill Weiss) of Oakdale, Minnesota, and Marcia Hermann Johnson (Steve) of Knife River, Minnesota; grandchildren, Ali (Curt), Emily, Dylan, and Sloane; great grandsons, Trace, Reid, and Cam; mother-in-law, Marion Fuerstenburg; sisters-in-law, Ruth Schonerock and Deb Fuerstenburg; and loving nieces and nephews.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
We ask that you raise a glass to a man that will be greatly missed by all that knew him and loved him.
