IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Irene J
Giordano
December 30, 1933 – November 3, 2025
Irene Julia Albrecht Giordano passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025, in Cape Coral, Florida, at the age of 91.
Irene was born on December 30, 1933, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, to William and Hedwig (Schmidt) Albrecht. After graduating from St. Mary's Parochial School, she worked at Bell Telephone Company and Grayce Farms Dairy, a local ice cream parlor, where she met her future husband, Ernest "Ernie" Giordano. They were married on April 19, 1954, while Ernie was serving in the U.S. Navy, and began their nearly 55 years of marriage living in a trailer in Key West, Florida.
Following Ernie's discharge from the Navy, Irene and Ernie returned to Scranton and began growing their family. In 1958, they moved to Northern Virginia, where Ernie became a U.S. Secret Service police officer and Irene devoted herself to raising their six children. After her younger children entered elementary school, Irene worked for approximately ten years in the management office of a condominium complex in Falls Church, VA.
As her children grew and she welcomed grandchildren, Irene lovingly helped care for several of them, as well as children of close friends, for many years. Eventually, Irene and Ernie began spending winters in Florida, a place they came to love deeply. They later sold their family home in Alexandria, VA, purchasing a summer condo in Burke, VA, and a winter home in Cape Coral, Florida.
In Cape Coral, Irene and Ernie formed many lasting friendships and stayed busy enjoying bingo nights, trips to the beach, and social gatherings at places like the Cop Shop and Moose Lodge. After Ernie's passing in March 2009, Irene continued the snowbird lifestyle for a few years before settling full-time in Cape Coral.
For the last three-plus years, Irene resided in assisted living, where she once again made new friends, enjoyed bingo, and participated in the many activities she loved.
Irene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ernest Giordano; her parents, William and Hedwig Albrecht; and her siblings: Hildegard Mangan, Rosemarie Greco, William Albrecht, Hedwig Nealon, Karolina Albrecht, Paul Albrecht, Lillian Woodbridge, George Albrecht, Therese Valvano Shusta, and Thomas Albrecht.
She is survived by her children: Michael Giordano; Rita Roney; Ernest Giordano, Jr. (Victoria); Philip Giordano; Kenneth Giordano (Maryellen); and Irene M. Giordano. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Michelle Giordano, Michael Giordano, Lisa Roney, Kimberly Miller (James), Kristin Giordano (Ryan), Kevin Giordano, Anthony Giordano, Matthew McKessor (Lauren), and Erik McKessor; and four great-grandchildren: Julie, Hannah, Adeline, and Millie Miller. Irene is also lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Irene will be remembered for her love of family, her quiet strength, and the lasting legacy she leaves through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service celebrating Irene's life will be held in the summer of 2026 near Quantico, Virginia, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Ernest.
