Obituary

Jack Pearson, 85, passed away on September 7, 2025, in Orlando, Florida, with his beloved wife of 66 years, Marie, by his side. Born on January 27, 1940, in Phoenix, Arizona, Jack lived a life defined by curiosity, craftsmanship, and a deep love for the natural world.

After graduating from El Dorado County High School and Monterey Peninsula College, Jack began his career in the lumber mills of Northern California before finding his lifelong calling in marine mammal care and training. At Marineland of the Pacific, he rose to Head Trainer and Director of Training and Shows, helping shape the field of marine mammal training.

A founding leader of the International Marine Animal Trainer's Association (IMATA), Jack served in multiple leadership roles and represented the organization at the International Whaling Commission. His career later took him to the New England Aquarium, the Indianapolis Zoo, and finally SeaWorld Orlando, where he served for 17 years as Curator of Mammals and Director of Animal Care. There, he oversaw the Manatee Rescue and Rehabilitation Program and helped design beloved animal habitats. Jack's boundless curiosity extended beyond his profession—he was a gifted craftsman, problem-solver, and lifelong learner. After retiring in 2005, he continued consulting on marine mammal habitats around the world, blending his technical expertise with his passion for wildlife.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Marie, his sons Mark and his wife, Lisa; Brett and his wife, Samantha, and his daughter, Pamela Bryant, and her husband, Bill. He is also remembered by his eight cherished grandchildren. His legacy endures through his family, his colleagues, and the many lives and animals he cared for.

At the family's request, there will be no service at this time.
