Jesse Lessley Motes, age 103, of Belle Glade, Florida, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025 in Ocala, Florida. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Jesse lived a long and remarkable life filled with love, laughter, and service.
Born on May 27, 1922, in Belle Glade, Jesse proudly served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II for four years. Following his military service, he built a successful career as a professional painter, owning and operating his own business for over 30 years. He was the Commander for the American Legion for many years. He was also a member with the Draft Board in the 1960's for the Vietnam War. Jesse was also a member of the Elks Club, Belle Glade, FL. He and his twin brother, David Motes, were the first set of twins born in Belle Glade, FL in 1922.
Jesse was known for his kind, loving, and generous spirit. He had a unique ability to make everyone feel welcome and loved. He found joy in the simple things playing Rummikub and Mexican Train with family and friends, and sharing captivating stories from his long and full life.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Laverne Lockhart Motes; grandchildren Ken Motes, Jeff Motes, and Angela Johnson; great-grandchildren Vella, Dominick, Marcello & Abriel, Barry Johnson II and Dr. Brandy Johnson Altman; great-greatgrandchildren Isaiah Johnson, Arelia Johnson, and Roman Altman; stepchildren Dale Alston and Lisa Mills; stepgrandchildren Stacy Pitts, Jacob Alston, Matthew Alston, and Mason Alston, Grecia Timmsen, Dr. Montana Mills, and 20d Lt. Maddie Sturgill; and a growing legacy of eight stepgreat-grandchildren, one stepgreat-great-grandchild, and one stepgreat-great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his son Wayne, and his two brothers, Louis and his identical twin, David.
Jesse's legacy of love, humor, and family devotion will live on in all who had the honor of knowing him.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025 at 11:30 A.M.at the military grounds in Bushnell, Florida, where Jesse will be honored for his life of service and dedication. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Gentiva Hospice 1320 SE 25th Loop #101 Ocala, FL 34471.
