IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John P.
Hertzog
August 1, 1962 – November 29, 2025
John Hertzog, 63, left this world surrounded by loved ones on November 29, 2025, following complications from cancer. A lifelong resident of Manatee County, John was born on August 1, 1962, to Phil and Betty Lou Hertzog. John owned and operated John Hertzog Construction for many years and was a remarkably talented craftsman. A master carpenter skilled in concrete, metal, and tile work, John could truly do it all. His work lives on in countless barns, homes, commercial buildings, and outdoor living spaces that he designed and built with pride. His craftsmanship left a lasting mark on the community he loved. An avid outdoorsman, John especially enjoyed hunting and spending time surrounded by family and friends. He never met a stranger and was known for his humor, warmth, and the genuine kindness he extended to everyone he encountered. Well-loved and widely respected, John's presence filled every space with ease and familiarity. John is survived by his wife and soulmate of 32 years, Kimberly Hartshorn; loving daughter Jessica and son-in-law Timothy Beasley; sons Eric (Samantha) and Billy; daughter Holly; eight grandchildren; his mother Betty Lou Hertzog; sister Cheri Hertzog; nieces Cindy Burns, Montana, and Bailey Hartshorn; brother-in-law Wayne Hartshorn and many close friends who were family in every way. His favorite role in life was being "Papa" to his grandchildren. A Celebration of Life to honor John's extraordinary life will be held on February 8, 2026, from 1-4 p.m.at the Farm Bureau Pavilion, 7289 Palmer Boulevard, Sarasota, FL 34240. John's hands built beautiful places, but his heart built a legacy of love that will live on in all who knew him. He leaves us with a lifetime of stories, a thousand laughs, and a humor so genuine and quick-witted that it will continue to light our days in the most unexpected moments.
