IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph John
Donlon, Jr.
October 19, 1939 – November 18, 2025
Joseph John Donlon, Jr., 86, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025, in The Villages, Florida, surrounded by his loving family.
Joe was born and raised on Main Street in Johnson City, New York by his parents Alice and Joseph Donlon, Sr. alongside his older brother Jim and younger brother Tom. He later married the love of his life, Janice Lamphere, at St. James Catholic Church, directly across the street.
In 1961, Joe graduated from Niagara University with a degree in accounting. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army and spent a significant portion of his two-year service stationed in Nuremberg, Germany.
Thereafter, he began his career in Washington, DC where he earned a master's degree from American University. Joe's professional career was centered around the financial affairs of the federal government, working in the General Accounting Office, several private sector consulting roles, and as the Comptroller for the Internal Revenue Service.
Following their wedding in 1964, Joe and Janice made Maryland their home for forty years, where they raised their two sons and built a lifetime of friendships.
In 2001, Joe retired and relocated with Janice to The Villages, FL, where they both treasured their involvement with the Central New York Club, the Irish Club, and the Celtic Club, where they shared fellowship, culture, and lasting memories. They vacationed each summer in Stone Harbor, NJ and traveled abroad frequently.
Joe's Catholic faith was very important to him and he was defined by love of family, loyalty to friends, and dedicated service to others. In Maryland, he was active in St. John Neumann Catholic Church as a lector, eucharistic minister, and CCD teacher. Joe remained active and engaged in retirement as a proud member of the Orange Blossom Lions Club, volunteering with St. Mark's Catholic Church and Take Stock in Children and serving on the board of the Langley Health Center.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife of more than 60 years, Janice Donlon; his sons Kevin (Beth) of Charlotte, NC and Brian (Mika) of Clarksburg, MD; and his cherished grandchildren Caroline, Matthew, Sean, and Rory.
A Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Monday, January 5, 2026, at St. Mark's Catholic Church in The Villages, FL (luncheon to follow). An interment will be held at 11:00 AM on January 6, 2026, at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
