Juan Manual Carattini passed away at home, surrounded by family members on December 24, 2025, following a sudden illness.
Juan was born on March 21, 1939, in Cayey, Puerto Rico. In addition to Puerto Rico, he lived in New York City, Orlando, Florida and Port Charlotte, Florida. He is survived by his 3 children, Magaly Carattini Walsh [Spouse of Michael Walsh], Juan M. Carattini, Jr. and Esteban R. Carattini [Spouse of Lannette Carattini], sister Haydee Martinez, brothers Jorge Berrios and David Berrios, 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his mother Genoveva Berrios and 2 brothers Jose and Robert Berrios.
After completing his education and working several jobs Juan began his career at Consolidated Edison [Con-Ed] in New York City as a Customer Service Representative retiring after 23 years eventually returning to Puerto Rico. In 2010 He returned to Florida eventually moving in with his daughter Magaly and son-in-law Michael.
Despite his medical issues he liked to go out for long walks walking to the Publix grocery store located about 1 ½ miles from home 2-3 times per week. He would fill his backpack with the things he wanted and hang out at the store talking to a group of acquaintances and employees of the store. In 2019 he followed Magaly and Michael to Port Charlotte, Florida where he lived with them during his final years.
He was a huge fan of the New York Jets, New York Mets and Miami Dolphins, all 3 of which caused him lots of strife over the years. He enjoyed watching all of Indiana Jones movies and Castaway repeatedly (Usually on a daily basis). Every Saturday night at 7pm was Lawrence Welk night and he could be heard singing loudly along with the program.
A memorial Service is scheduled for 1:00pm on January 17, 2025, at the Baldwinn Fairchild Funeral Home located at 1100 El Jobean Rd. Port Charlotte, Florida. His son, Deacon Juan Carattini Jr. will officiate. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Tidewell Hospice [support.tidewellfoundation.org] who provided excellent care and support to the family as Juan and the family prepared for the next step in his journey. Interment will be in Cayey, Puerto Rico.
