Leland Reistad Johnson of Dunedin, Florida, age 78, passed away surrounded by his family on December 18, 2025, at Mease Dunedin Hospital after a short battle with lung cancer.
Lee was born in Glenwood, Minnesota on July 2, 1947, the first-born child of Leonard and Rosella Johnson of Kensington, Minnesota. He grew up in Kensington, Racine Wisconsin and Coon Rapids Minnesota. He graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1966. After graduation, he worked at Honeywell until he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in October 1966. He was a member of the USAF Security Police stationed in Thailand (1967-1968) during the Vietnam War, after which he was stationed at Travis AF Base, Fairfield California, and the SAC AF Base, Minot ND. He was discharged from the Air Force in August 1970.
He was employed by Honeywell in Minnesota, New Mexico and Florida for over 20 years holding positions in Machining and Parts Fabrication, Development Engineering, and Production Control. After moving back to Minnesota in 1990, he was a purchasing agent for Digital Biometrics, Inc and Technology 80, Inc.
He loved spending time with family, planning trips, and traveling within the US and abroad. His favorite pastimes were biking and photography, and he often enjoyed them simultaneously.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Rosella (Reistad) Johnson. He is survived by Vickie Edman, his partner and soulmate for over 30 years; daughters Kathy (Jim) Lund, Christina Johnson-Brown, Jacquilynn (JD Connolly) Johnson; grandchildren Jasmine (Jake) Krol, Tyler Brown, Quinten Brown; great-grandchildren Yareni Belardinelli and Atlas Krol. Siblings David (Barbara) Johnson, Ann (Rick) Dengel, one niece and three nephews; He is also survived by Vickie's daughter Jennifer (Jeff) Horst; grandchildren Alyssa (Dylan) Walker and Ryan Horst; as well as extended family members and many friends.
A celebration of his life will take place in Minnesota this upcoming spring/summer.
