Marvin Leigh Smith was born on December 12, 1947, in Indianapolis, Indiana. From a young age, Leigh demonstrated a strong work ethic, determination, and a love for learning that would guide him throughout his life.
During high school, he was an active student, participating in football, basketball, and track. He was a member of the Student Council, Honor Roll, and Varsity Club, and took part in the senior class play. These experiences shaped his character, drive, and leadership abilities.
Leigh attended Florida State University, and then went on to pursue a career in restaurant management, where he excelled as a manager. As well as serving in the United States Navy for 4 years.
Never one to stop learning, Leigh also studied Psychology and earned a Masters degree from Florida State University. It was there that he met the love of his life, Julie. The two were married on July 4, 1986 in Lake Tahoe, California, and shared 36 wonderful years together.
Professionally, Leigh and Julie both worked for Council 4 Development Center, where they dedicated themselves to helping others and improving their community. Leigh also spent ten years working with the United Way in the Central Florida tri-county area, where he played a key role in planning fundraisers and community events. He had also earned in his black belt in Tae-Kwan-Do.
Leigh lived life to the fullest and had a wide range of interests. He was a certified Dive Master, an avid runner who participated in 5K races across the state, and a talented musician who enjoyed playing guitar and ukulele. He loved singing with friends and performing in a local band.
Leigh will be remembered for his kind spirit, warm sense of humor, and his dedication to others. His passion for life, learning, and helping people left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his brother, James L. Smith (Shirley) of Seffner; his niece, Tami J. Smith (Colclasure) Randy of Fort Myers; and his nephew, Corey J. Smith (Crystal) of South Tampa.
Leigh was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Julie, in February 2022.
