Mary Rosaline "Rosie aka Rose" Sweetsir
With love and peace, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Mary Rosaline Sweetsir, whose earthly journey came to an end on September 17, 2025. Surrounded by the love of her family and embraced by the open arms of Jesus, she was welcomed into His Kingdom.
Born on March 22, 1938, in Lima, Ohio, she soon moved to Oneco, Florida with her parents, Clyde Robert and Ida Cameron, and her older brother Robert. It was there she grew up and attended Manatee High School. On June 7, 1957, she married the love of her life, Kenneth Sweetsir, with whom she shared a beautiful life and raised three wonderful children: Melody (Jim) Kelley, Desiree (the late David) Miller, and Geoff (Janet) Sweetsir.
She is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Kenny, her parents, and her four siblings who preceded her in death: Bobby Cameron, Judy Varnadore, Rod Cameron, and Marvin Cameron. She leaves behind two sisters, Vicki Hofmann of New York and Melba Golden of Sarasota, as well as four adored grandchildren: Jennifer (the late Richard) Fontaine, Tanaya Miller, Katie (Bobby) Kimbrell, and Brandon (Christina)Miller. She will also be forever loved by her 12 great-grandchildren: Marissa, Olivia, Hayden, Amanda, Ollie, Wyatt, Finn, Zoey, Caleb, Ethan, Emma, and Freyah, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Most of her adult life was devoted to being a loving stay-at-home mother, always ensuring her family's needs were met and often going beyond to provide their wants. She also enjoyed working at Forest Lakes Country Club, Cloth World, and Publix, where her warm spirit and love for people shone through. A proud member of Beta Sigma Phi, a women's organization, she held numerous leadership roles and worked tirelessly on community projects in Sarasota. Through these efforts, she forged lifelong friendships that she treasured deeply.
Known fondly as the "Card Shark" by her family and friends, she loved playing cards and was often the one with the winning hand. She also had a simple and classic taste when it came to meals—pancakes for breakfast and a hamburger, French fries, and a cold Coca-Cola for lunch or dinner. But it wasn't just her love for food that people remembered—it was her vibrant personality. Her signature greeting, "Welllll HI!" always welcomed family, friends, and neighbors with a warmth and enthusiasm that made everyone feel at home.
She was a woman of strong faith and deep conviction. A believer in Jesus Christ, she lived her life with grace, humility, and a heart full of gratitude. She never missed a prayer before meals and gave thanks to Jesus for His blessings, large and small. Her kindness, generosity, and ability to forgive set an example for all who knew her.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 26th, 2025, at 2:30 PM at Sarasota Memorial Park, 5833 S Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL. Following the service, we invite you to join us for a celebration of life at Turtle Beach Pavilion, 8918 Midnight Pass Road.
In lieu of sending flowers, please consider making a donation in here name to Tidewell Hospice in Sarasota.
Mom's love, laughter, and spirit will forever live in our hearts. Rest in peace, dear one, until we meet again.
