Matthew Higgins, 70, beloved husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2025. Born on March 24, 1955, Matthew lived a life defined by loyalty, courage, and deep devotion to the people he loved.

A proud NYPD Detective and 9/11 First Responder, Matthew served his city and country with extraordinary bravery. His years of service reflected his strong sense of duty and his unwavering commitment to protecting others. Those who knew him will forever remember his strength, integrity, and quiet resilience.

Matthew cherished his family above all. He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis; his children, Shanon and Abby; his stepchildren, Daina and Anthony; and his adored grandchildren – Cambree, Matthew, Autumn, Peter, Lexi, and August. Each one brought him great pride and joy. He is also remembered fondly by extended family, former colleagues, and the many friends whose lives he touched.

To know Matthew was to admire him. His steady presence, sharp wit, and generous heart will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 21, 2026, at Chris's Lounge, 1301 Ridgewood Ave., Holly Hill, Florida, beginning at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Matthews's honor.
