Obituary

Michael Essa Awad entered eternal rest on September 4, 2025, at Advent Health, surrounded by his loving family, after a long and courageous battle with brain cancer.

Born on June 11, 1965, in Daytona Beach, Florida, Michael was the beloved son of Kathryn Utter and the late Robert Essa Awad. He was best known for his lifelong love of the water—whether diving, fishing, surfing, jet skiing, or simply walking along the shore.

A devoted member of the Shriners for more than 30 years, Michael dedicated his life not only to his family and friends but also to his community. His professional "mark" can be seen throughout Volusia, Flagler and Marion Counties, where he worked as a land surveyor for over 35 years and proudly owned Awad Land Surveying.

Michael is survived by his wife, Dawn M. Jones; his beloved daughter, Michelle Taylor Awad; his stepson, Mark Adam Jones; and his siblings, David Andre Awad, Jeanette Awad Munson (Larry), and Gregory Robert Awad (Jennifer deVignier). He was predeceased by his sister, Renee Marie Gerken (Brett), and his grandparents, Adolph Lester and Helen Gorman.

A private celebration of life to be held in future.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in his memory.
