July 23, 1944 – November 27, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Swedish, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who departed this world on November 27, 2025, at the age of 81. Richard was born on July 23, 1944, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to John and Mary (Thornby) Swedish. He lived a life full of love, laughter, and an indomitable spirit that will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Richard graduated from high school in 1963 and pursued his passion for hairstyling by attending barber school in Pittsburgh. His love for hair and his barber business became a cornerstone of his life and a source of joy. He dedicated himself to his craft, leaving a lasting impression on the many clients he served over the years.
In 1987 Richard married the love of his life, Jane E. (LaCombe) Swedish. They built a beautiful life together, raising two wonderful children : daughters Eva Ione Harwood (Timothy) and grandchildren Piper Jane, Remi James, and Timothy Tucker and Eden Geraldine Herterick (Keith) and grandchildren Liliana Marie and Delilah Joy. Richard was a devoted father, always supporting and encouraging his children in their endeavors, along with his grandchildren who all brought immense joy and pride to his life. Richard is also survived by his two children from a previous marriage, Richard Swedish and Stacey Natale, along with his brother Ronald Swedish of Pennsylvannia and many other loving friends and family members.
In addition to his work, Richard was an avid bodybuilding enthusiast. He embraced a lifelong journey of fitness and remained dedicated to his health and well-being. His passion for bodybuilding led him to become a member of the National Physique Committee, where he showcased his hard work and dedication. He proudly earned the titles of Mr. Florida in 1993 and Mr. Southern States in 1994 along with various additional titles throughout the state, competing in his last competition at the age of 70 alongside his son. These accolades speak to his commitment and discipline, Richard still went to the gym daily up until his last eight months.
In past years Richard enjoyed growing his own gardens and food, and Richard loved cooking meals for his family and friends. He loved outdoor activities including walks on the beach, laying in the sun with a good book or the bible, and playing golf or kayaking. He loved card nights with good friends and painting various pieces of art, which was evident to anyone walking through the Swedish home.
Richard's family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and support they have received during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, they invite you to make a donation to Hope Hospice, an organization that provided care and comfort during his final days.
