Ruby "Nannie" McDowell, 92, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, entered into eternal rest on August 29, 2025. She was born October 29, 1932, in Carrollton, Kentucky, to Charles and Dorothy Gray.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: Sharissa Rogers (Jerry), Darlaina Shackelford, Cheramy Vivona (Rudy), Demicia Colbert (David), Charles McDowell, and Shawn McDowell. She also leaves behind twenty-two cherished grandchildren, fifty-two great-grandchildren, and twenty-eight great-great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy.
Ruby's life was a testament to faith, perseverance, and service. She was the founder and president of McDowell Ministries of Florida, where she dedicated her heart and hands to helping the underprivileged. Earlier in her career, she worked as a proofreader for the Orlando Sentinel, a role that reflected her attention to detail and love of language.
Her legacy of compassion continues through McDowell Ministries. In her honor, a memorial dinner for the underprivileged will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions to this dinner may be mailed to McDowell Ministries, P.O. Box 878, Christmas, FL 32709. Ruby will be remembered most for her unwavering faith, her deep love for family, and her boundless generosity for all whose lives she touched.
