Dr. Seaton Smith passed away on August 9, 2025 from natural causes. Seaton was born in Petersburg, Virginia to Seaton E. Smith, Sr and Rebecca Green Smith. He attended Randolph Macon College in Ashland, Virginia where he met Lucille Mills. They wed in 1954 and were happily married for almost 71 years. Seaton received his Doctoral Degree in Education from Ohio University in Athens, OH where he began his teaching career. He accepted a Professorship position at the University of West Florida and became one of the founding professors in 1968. At this retirement from UWF in 1990, he was granted the honor of being named a Professor Emeritus. He then moved to Carrollton, Georgia, and accepted a position at the University of West Georgia in the Department of Education from 1990-1998. Over the years, he has helped to train and mentor hundreds of students in techniques for teaching math at the elementary and secondary levels. He also authored numerous math textbooks that were used throughout the United States. From 1977 to 1996, Seaton, Lucille, and their two sons, Jim and Bob, owned and operated Camp Mishemokwa in Bat Cave, North Carolina. Camp Mishemokwa provided a wonderful summer experience for thousands of children and teens, and is fondly remembered by many as a highlight of their childhood. Seaton was passionate about baseball and was a season ticket holder for the Atlanta Braves for 36 years. Over the years, he and Lucille have been to every major league baseball park. They both travelled the world, seeing all of Europe, Asia, Africa and beyond. There are very few countries that they have not visited! Seaton is survived by his wife Lucille, son Jim (Kathryn), and son Bob (Kathy). He was also a loving grandfather to this three grandchildren, Rebekah Smith Cassevah (Adam), Elizabeth Smith, and David Smith, as well as his great-grandson Donovan Cassevah.
