Obituary

It is with great love and deep sorrow that the family of Susan (Sue) Rowland, of The Villages, FL (formerly of Scottsville, Canandaigua, and Victor, NY), announce her passing on October 18, 2025, at the age of 77. Sue bravely faced pancreatic cancer for the past three years, having also survived breast cancer 30 years earlier.

Sue was predeceased by the love of her life, her "Paulie," husband Paul E. Rowland, whom she married in 1970. She is survived by her daughters Kerry Kilroy (Matt) and Wendy Reynoso, her brother Chuck Knitter (Jill), her brother-in-law Doug Rowland (Carol), and her beloved grandchildren Davíd Reynoso, Sofie Reynoso, Herbie Kilroy, and Laura Kilroy. She is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews: Ashley Knitter, Leanne Knitter (Justin), Kevin Knitter, Laura Crawford (Jeff), Paul Rowland, Todd Rowland (Julene), Kristen Bevins (Jay), Jeremy Rowland (Mel), Ian Rowland (Lee). Sue was predeceased by her parents Ilene and Harold Knitter, her brother-in-law Gary Rowland and his wife Carole Rowland, and her brother-in-law Ivan Clark and his wife Toi Rowland.

Known affectionately as Sue, Susie, Gramma, Aunt Sue, and Mom, she was born in Henrietta, NY, and graduated from Rush-Henrietta High School with the Class of 1966. Sue lived, worked, and raised her family in the Rochester area for nearly fifty years. Over the years she was a stay-at-home mother to her girls, worked as a waitress at the Oatka Restaurant, a classroom assistant at T.J. Conner Elementary School, a bank teller and manager, a paralegal in mortgage lending, a school board member, and an administrative assistant.  Mom was our tireless support for any craft, sport, school project or other crazy endeavor we concocted, and she was the on-call staff hairdresser for the entire house, 80's perms and braids included. She was a crafter of costumes for children and grandchildren, a cookie baker, an eight-layer Jell-O constructor, a Zumba and line dancer, and a golfing buddy. Her smile and laughter brought family and friends together wherever she went.

Sue and Paul cherished their family and friends in New York before moving to The Villages, Florida, where they spent nearly 20 wonderful years living out their retirement dreams. They were incredibly lucky to be surrounded by lifelong friends and family from New York who also settled in FL nearby.

Services will be held at Hope Lutheran Church in The Villages, FL, with a Celebration of Life to follow in the Rochester, NY area – dates to be announced.
